Langley, BC – Aspiring woodworkers and DIY enthusiasts have an exciting opportunity to learn the fundamentals of woodworking at Maker Cube’s Make Your Own Cutting Board – Introduction to Woodworking workshop on Thursday, March 6. This hands-on class, designed for participants ages 14 and up, provides a structured introduction to woodworking techniques and tool safety, allowing attendees to create their own handcrafted cutting board.

Workshop Overview

This beginner-friendly class will guide participants through the essentials of woodworking, including handling tools safely, shaping hardwood, and finishing a personalized 8 x 12-inch cutting board made from high-quality materials such as Eastern Maple, Purpleheart, and Black Walnut.

Participants will gain hands-on experience with woodworking tools including the drill press, band saw, miter saw, belt and spindle sander, and random orbit sander. The skills learned will allow attendees to confidently work on future woodworking projects or continue practicing at Maker Cube as members.

Workshop Goals

By the end of the session, participants will:

  • Understand basic woodworking techniques
  • Learn tool safety and handling
  • Gain experience with power tools and sanding techniques
  • Create a fully finished and food-safe cutting board

Attendees will also be introduced to Maker Cube’s woodshop policies and safety guidelines. Those who complete the class successfully may be eligible to use the tools independently as Maker Cube members.

    • Mask (recommended for dust sensitivity)
    • Closed-toe shoes
    • Long hair must be tied back
    • No loose clothing, long sleeves, or jewelry
