Soils and Data Science: PRSSS AGM 2025 Conference & Spring Workshop at SFU Surrey

Surrey, BC – March 1, 2025 – The Pacific Regional Society of Soil Science (PRSSS) is set to host its highly anticipated 2025 AGM Conference and Spring Workshop, focusing on the evolving field of soil data science. Organized in collaboration with the B.C. Centre for Agritech Innovation (BCCAI), the event will bring together scientists, researchers, students, and industry professionals to explore innovative approaches to soil science and digital data applications.

The conference will be held at Simon Fraser University’s Surrey Campus (Room SYRC 2740, 13450 102 Avenue, Surrey, BC) from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM PST. It will feature expert-led discussions, interactive workshops, and a student poster competition, providing a unique blend of knowledge sharing and practical experience.


Conference Highlights

Exploring the Intersection of Soil Science and Data Innovation

The 2025 PRSSS AGM will provide attendees with insights into emerging trends in soil data science, covering advancements in soil mapping, digital diagnostics, and sustainable land management. Researchers and industry professionals will discuss cutting-edge technologies and methodologies that enhance soil analysis, conservation, and agricultural productivity.

Student Poster Competition

A major feature of the conference is the Student Poster Competition, which offers post-secondary students the chance to showcase their research, proposals, or innovative ideas related to soil science. This competition, open to both in-person and virtual attendees, includes prizes for 1st ($300), 2nd ($200), and 3rd place ($100). Additionally, an in-person People’s Choice Award ($100) will be determined by attendees during the event.

To participate, students must submit their posters by February 15, 2025, in PDF or PowerPoint format to [email protected] with the subject line: Last Name, First Name – PRSSS Poster Submission. The recommended poster size is 3ft x 4ft, and reimbursement for printing (up to $45) is available for qualifying participants.

Registration and Fees

To attend, participants must complete two steps:

  1. Register and pay via Eventbrite
    • Students: $30
    • Professionals: $60
    • Online attendees: $15
  2. Claim PRSSS Membership for 2025/2026 through the provided registration link (Google Form).

All registered participants will gain access to the full-day event, networking sessions, and hands-on learning experiences with leading experts in soil science and agritech innovation.
