Event Overview:

On Thursday, March 20, 2025, the Spring Honeybee Centre Field Trip will offer an engaging and educational experience for students to explore the fascinating world of bees, beekeeping, and environmental stewardship. This field trip is part of the Spring Field Trip Deposit collection, which allows groups to secure their date and prepare for a day of discovery. With interactive presentations, hands-on activities, and a honey tasting, this 1 hour and 15-minute program is designed to captivate young learners and foster a greater appreciation for pollinators.

Agenda:

  • 10:00 AM – 10:05 AM: Welcome and introduction outside the classroom (dress for the weather). Participants will get settled and ready for the program.
  • 10:05 AM – 10:35 AM: Interactive Presentation. Topics include the life-cycle of bees, beekeeping practices, the importance of pollination, and environmental stewardship. The presentation can be tailored to the group’s needs.
  • 10:35 AM – 11:00 AM: Explore Time. Children can dress as beekeepers or bees and explore the honeybee classroom, engaging in puzzles, books, games, sensory play, and arts & crafts. Students will also plant bee-friendly seeds to take home.
  • 11:00 AM – 11:15 AM: Closing activities. Includes cleanup, a Q&A session, and a honey tasting for all guests.
  • 11:15 AM – 11:30 AM: Optional visit to the gift shop (supervision required due to glass jars).

About the Program:

The Honeybee Centre’s program is aligned with the BC Curriculum, offering a fun and interactive learning experience for students. The focus is on bees, life-cycle, beekeeping, pollination, and environmental stewardship. Students will engage with hands-on activities like planting bee-friendly seeds, experiencing honey tasting, and learning about the vital role of pollinators.
